most important unimportant thing
The most important unimportant thing is: The ip command's -br
flag, which I should've looked up much, much, much earlier. Since the advent of
containerization, a simple ip a command produces so much output – in fact,
often over multiple screenheights – that you've got
to scroll around a lot to get an overview of the IPs which are currently in use.
-br flag to the rescue: This will create an abbreviated output version
which might look like this:
lo UNKNOWN 127.0.0.1/8 ::1/128 enp2s0 UP 172.24.1.22/16 172.24.1.1/16 node-13 UNKNOWN 172.31.13.11/32 fdb0:deca:b15:204::11/128 node-12 UNKNOWN 172.31.12.11/32 fdb0:deca:b15:203::11/128 node-14 UNKNOWN 172.31.14.11/32 fdb0:deca:b15:206::11/128 docker0 DOWN 172.17.0.1/16 br-cf2ffba9568e UP 172.18.0.1/16 fe80::1432:4aff:fe65:24fa/64 veth3f0f5ef@if2 UP fe80::5cad:c7ff:fe5a:fdb1/64 veth92338bc@if2 UP fe80::1c62:5dff:fe7d:146d/64 vetha6d230c@if2 UP fe80::3877:1dff:feb6:86e1/64
